Let’s meditate on a reading according to Saint Matthew:
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
In this reading, Jesus proclaims those attitudes that bless your life.
What is the spirit of Jesus, or better, how can I imitate Jesus in his spirit?
I imitate Jesus by being honest, respecting others, helping others without expecting anything in return, seeking and saying the truth, being truthful in spite of the challenges I face, supporting those in need, showing respect to my parents, striving to overcome material and spiritual poverty, thinking less about myself.

The Persecution for God’s Servants
Proof:
Jesus Christ, the true heir of the vineyard, instead of being welcomed with reverence, was falsely accused and sentenced to death on the Cross through malice and calumnies, because of the greed and jealously of those amongst whom He was sent by God to teach and to bless. Good repaid with evil.
Reflections from this page:
- A divine prophecy that will surely be fulfilled is, “If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you” (Jn 15,20).
- A bad sentence must be received in one of the two tribunals indispensable for everyone, because they are opposite each other, “Blessed are you when people abuse you” (Mt 5,11).
- The persecution of the just by the wicked will bring on the latter real confusion. But glory, reward and true good will come upon the just: good from evil.
- The ordinary cause of persecution is sensuality, which in order to be satisfied, abhors every prohibition and all spiritual good.
Resolution:
We resolve to be prepared for persecutions and to be happy when they come, armed with the thought that we will be like our Divine Master in being awarded such a sign of predestination for eternal glory.
