Br. Mike Herlihey was playing with some children in front of the school near the church where he worked when one of the children approached him and asked if he was Jesus. He replied, “I’m not Jesus, but Jesus is my good friend.” The child responded that he was also a friend of Jesus, and both of them continued to play with the other children.
When Br. Mike decided it was time to continue with his activities, he asked the children to pray for him when they are praying. What happened next was surprising. The child who had asked if Br. Mike was Jesus went down on his knees in a prayerful manner. It was this child’s simplicity that impressed not only Br. Mike but all those present.
“Unless you do not become like little children…” Are we ready to kneel and pray? Are we ready to put aside what we are doing to find Jesus? It’s not in vain that Jesus told us, “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.”
