World Youth Day 2023

A group of sixteen SDC members and four candidates travelled to Portugal for the World Youth Day 2023. The experience started on 26 July when the group flew to the Diocese of Fatima for the Days in the Diocese. They were hosted in groups by several families in the parish of Souto de Carpalhosa. During this time, they had the opportunity to visit and pray at the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fatima. They established contacts with Catholic young people from Iraq and Brazil who were also hosted in the same parish.
The SDC group then travelled to Lisbon for the World Youth Day activities held from 2 to 6 August. Here they participated in all the events, namely those presided by His Holiness Pope Francis. These reached the climax with the prayer vigil on Saturday 5 and Mass on Sunday 6, both held at the Campo de Graça. All now look forward to the Jubilee for Young People to be held in Rome in 2025 and the World Youth Day 2027 to be held in South Korea.
