Come be my Light is a book that revolves around the life and vocation of our contemporary saint, St Teresa, better known as Mother Teresa of Calcutta. This book includes various anecdotes from her interesting journey of faith. Simplicity and her love for God are amongst the themes exposed in this book. The protagonist, in the words of St Teresa, is God. In fact, the book begins with the quote:
“Put your hand in His hand, and walk alone with Him. Walk ahead, because if you look back you will go back.”
Whilst reflecting on these words, we realize that St Teresa encourages us to stay stay close to Jesus if we really want to become better persons and achieve true success in our lives,
When discussing the lives of various saints, the most important thing that we must keep in ming is how we are going to let their lives inspire and guide us. Imitating their life of virtue and the values they upheld would definitely be of great benefit to our spiritual growth. The book Come be my Light is enriched with the strong values that St Teresa embraced in her life, especially that of helping the poorest of the poor. It is through this mission that she fulfills God’s will.
The phrase “the poorest of the poor” is synonymous with St Teresa, and therefore, it is continuously underlined throughout the book. In a letter to some missionaries, St Teresa writes that the work done in the world for the glory of God and for those in need is nothing but a miracle of God’s love which expresses itself through actions. This is the reason why she emphasized that the missionaries should be the hands of God on earth. It is immensely beautiful to think that when we help each other, God is working and reaching the poor through us.
Come be my Light is highly recommened to those who are eagerly seeking to perform God’s will on earth, in particular, to those interested in doing acts of mercy to the needy that are always with us.
