Firstly, I want to express my gratitude to the Superior General and GEC Members for organising the itinerary during my short visit to the SDC in Malta.
The accommodation at DHS provided me with an excellent opportunity to meet the resident Members, pray with them and listen to the various life experiences both in Malta and missionary experiences overseas. The carers and staff ensured all my needs were catered for during my stay.
My visits to the various Centers were the highlight of my stay in Malta. While visiting Centers and meeting Members (on most occasions) for the first time, there was a strong sense of familiarity as the environment and atmosphere had the same fervor as that in Melbourne.
There was a keen sense of community amongst the Members, which all played a significant role in the functioning of the Center. The young people attending were excited to be at the Centers and it was evident that they felt welcomed by the Members.
There was a strong focus on prayer and formation in all the Centers visited. While the young people enjoyed recreating with each other before the lessons, as soon as the bell rang – all attended their assigned class and participated in the meeting. The Members’ Assignment provided another sense of familiarity as it was as though I was back in Melbourne – the only difference being the language!
The Wednesday meetings were another opportunity to meet the Members and provided another opportunity to reflect on my vocation and the key elements required to effectively undertake my vocation within the SDC Center.
Finally, it was very encouraging to see the candidates and pre-candidates at the well-prepared function held at St Michael’s school. They shared time discerning and reflecting on what lessons can be drawn form the feast of the Epiphany, with a special focus on discerning God’s call and listening to various Members on their missionary experiences overseas.
A heartfelt thanks to everyone who made me feel welcome at the Centers and various activities I attended during my stay.
