O Lord, you are what you are; me! I am your creature, work of your goodness work of your omnipotence and your wisdom. You moulded my body and gave me a soul in your image so that with it I may acknowledge you and accept you as my maker; but as you gave me freedom to choose, I am always in danger of going against your will, if you don’t support me with your grace. I need you all the time so don’t leave me alone when my steadfastness wavers.
O Lord, you are here with me, and I am in you, I speak to you and I don’t see you; yet, I am sure that you exist, that you see me, hear me and understand me. You are my Maker, my Father, and I am your child and therefore I beseech your help and pray you hold me in your protection. Although I am evil and a sinner, I enjoy talking to you and beholding your Majesty in all your work; I speak confidently because I am the result of your work and because˝ you made clear your wish and joy to be present amongst humans.
O Lord, you love me truly. All you have done for me, which nobody else could have done for me, makes me sure you truly love me and convinces me I am much obliged to you. I thank you not with words only but also with my soul and truth also, by doing at all times and with your help al lthat pleases you and also by sacrificing myself because you are God of all creatures. I thank you always and everywhere both in prosperity as well as in hardship because you are a good God from whom no harm can go forth; my shortcomings I accept as beneficial because they issue from your Sanctuary. Much more I thank you because I know you expect to be thanked by your creatures.
O Lord, by your handwork, in the light of reason with which you adorned my soul, I acknowledge you in my spirit as omnipotent God, wise God and provident God; and perceiving you this way, I am filled with ardent zeal to be aware that I am your creature and doubtlessly know that only˛ you deserve adoration; only you have no beginning and no end; only you have no limits; only you are a source of all beneficence – all emanates from you, all from your power, all for you; all honur and glory to you alone for ever and ever.
O Lord, I am so struck by the magnitude of your Majesty that I fear to see you with my eyes, when these same eyes shake and stare in fear even in consideration of the beauty in the works of your fingers, in their collocation and diversity. You are spirit and consequently there is no way you can fall within our senses. As a spirit, you are hidden to our intellect which receives all knowledge from exterior sources but Heaven proclaimes you super-glorious; the universe, sole Author and Initiator of Creation.
O Lord, I am so ashamed of my past because I am well aware of my ingratitude through my sins after all your love. Heartily I hope of your pardon, but yet I can’t put aside the shame of being so ungrateful. I am made in your image and a transgression fills me with1 anxiety. How is it possible then you don’t take into consideration my misdemeanours? I repent so much for doing what you didn’t want and not doing what you want. Surely I didn’t realize who you were because I know naturally that a heart wants to love and be loved; surely I would be unable to be in any way offensive in your sight. Oh, how repulsive to offend him who is your benefactor! Thank you, my God, forgive me, oh Lord.
