Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church

The chapel dedicated to Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal is adjacent to the Central House of the Society of Christian Doctrine, MUSEUM. Its decoration was renovated in 2001 so that it received the venerated remains of Saint George Preca, beatified by Pope John Paul II, on May 9, 2001, in Malta and  canonized by Pope Benedict XVI, on June 3, 2007  in Rome.

The new decoration was executed by the Members of the Society from the designs of Professor Richard England. Architecture being very often the living expression of faith, it is precisely in this sense that the decoration of the Chapel of Blata l-Bajda was renovated.

As soon as you enter, you will be struck by the impression of peaceful strength that inhabits   this space. In front of you, a decor and colors which clearly emanate great simplicity. On your left, a small entrance leads you to the small chapel of the Blessed Sacrament and you enter to be alone with Him who is alone.

Everything is done to help you achieve this goal. Notice, on your left, all along the oratory, an empty passage which symbolizes our earthly life. Its decoration has a particular meaning: small marble pebbles cover the floor on which there are also pieces of wood.

When we walk on these small stones or on these pieces of wood, we feel that nothing is really stable. This is what we experience in daily life. However, if we raise our heads in search of what is durable, we see the tabernacle which rests on a solid pillar. Above the door of this tabernacle, a Latin inscription tells us: ‘Magister adest et vocat te‘ (the Lord is present and He is calling you). And it is here that we find the One we are looking for. The tabernacle is illuminated by a stained glass window, facing it, which reflects the natural light it receives from the outside.

Opening times of the Chapel of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal:

Monday – Friday: 07.00 – 11.00 (Mass at 07.30) and 17.00 – 18.30. (Evening Mass at 18.00 on Wednesdays only.)
Saturday: 09.00 – 11.00 and 17.00 to 19.00 (Evening Mass at 18.00).
Sunday: 07.30 – 10.00 (Mass at 08.00).
