The transfiguration of the Cross reveals the mystery of how suffering, once a symbol of shame, becomes a channel of grace, strength, and glory. Jesus Christ, in his teaching, presents the Cross not as a burden to fear but as a treasure to embrace. Human nature recoils at the thought of suffering, yet grace recognises that in the Cross lies the most precious gift. It is through the Cross alone that one finds the path to the Kingdom of Heaven.
The Cross is strength, the Cross is life, the Cross delivers us from the power of the enemy. By the Cross, God pours down upon us the joy of heaven; in it we find peace of heart and the perfection of holiness. It gathers within itself all virtues and leads us to the deepest desires of our soul. To bear the Cross with faith is to walk in the footsteps of Christ, allowing suffering to be transformed into redemptive love.
This mystery also points to the simple, yet profound, power of the sign of the Cross. Jesus calls us to use it with devotion, for it carries an omnipotent force against both spiritual and physical enemies. Through it, the Church finds protection, the saints found strength, and the assaults of evil are driven back. To neglect this sign is to set aside a divine aid given through Christ’s infinite merits.
Thus, the Cross, once a mark of defeat, shines forth as victory, life, and sanctification. Through it, the Christian finds both guidance and protection. The Cross, exalted, remains for us the surest sign of victory and of hope.
In contemplating the Cross, we are invited to pause, to reflect, and to pray with the heart of the disciple: Lord Jesus Christ, I need you in life and in death. Guide me always and never abandon me.
