On November 15, 2023, the SDC hosted the annual gathering of catechists of the Archdiocese of Malta at the Auditorium in its General House. Hundreds of catechists, including those from various parishes, participated. Rev. Dr. David Torpiano delivered the introductory message, and the Apostolic Nuncio for Malta, Archbishop Savio Hon Tai-Fai, addressed the theme «The Kerygma: ‘The principal proclamation’ in the Church and in Maltese society today.» He discussed the impact of secularism on Malta, addressing nihilism, moral relativism, and the relegation of faith to the private sphere. Archbishop Hon Tai-Fai drew an analogy between catechesis and healthy food, emphasizing the need to provide the nourishment of the Word of God in today’s challenging context. He stressed the importance of a united and convivial community of catechists for successful mission. The catechists responded positively to the message, viewing it as the result of Archbishop Hon Tai-Fai’s extensive experience in the universal Church. The meeting concluded with a blessing to all present catechists.
