Visiting the SDC Centres of Australia

Two SDC members from the Delegation of Malta, Johann Tabone and Roderick Spiteri, visited the centres of the Delegation of Australia from 29 June to 30 July 2026. The month-long visit provided an opportunity to experience the SDC apostolate in different parts of Australia and to strengthen the bonds between the two delegations.
Together with Secretary General Ruben Pace, the visiting members first spent time in Adelaide, where they participated in the 2026 Annual Reflection Weekend and the 2026 Preca Family Weekend.
They then travelled to Melbourne, where they visited the SDC centres of St Albans, Altona Meadows and Deer Park. At St Albans, they met families who gather at the centre every Friday for a time of reflection and fellowship. In Altona Meadows, they attended a sacramental preparation meeting for Confirmation organised by SDC members at Queen of Peace Parish, while in Deer Park they joined catechism classes conducted by the members at a nearby school.
During their stay in Melbourne, Johann and Roderick spent time at the centres each evening, sharing with the local members experiences of the SDC life and the apostolate in Malta. They also attended two Wednesday General Meetings at the Delegation House, leading one of them on the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
The visit continued in Sydney and Hobart. In Sydney, they participated in a Rosary meeting with friends of the SDC. In Hobart, they led a meeting for young people residing at the SDC house and attended Mass celebrated by Fr Ben Brooks, a former SDC member who now serves in the Diocese of Hobart.
The visit was a fruitful experience for both the visiting members and the SDC members in Australia, offering valuable opportunities to share experiences, learn from one another and strengthen the bonds of fraternity and mission within the SDC.
