The Centenary of Saint Francis

On the occasion of the 800th anniversary of the death of Saint Francis of Assisi, the meeting of the St George Preca Group of Friday 26 June 2026 was held in the Church of the Holy Cross, better known as the Capuchin Church, Floriana. The gathering began with Mass, celebrated by the Provincial, Fr Ivan Scicluna OFM Cap.
Afterwards, the Provincial shared a reflection on Similarities between Saint Francis of Assisi and Saint George Preca. In his reflection, he explained how both saints passed through experiences of trial, lived a life of intimacy with God, embraced the virtue of humility, and meditated deeply on the reality of death.
The meeting concluded with the prayer written by Pope Leo XIV for this centenary. Finally, refreshments were served in the square in front of the church.
