On Tuesday, 5thAugust 2025, SDC member Michael Debono delivered a public talk at the Nadur SDC Centre. The chosen theme was: ‘Tonight I was in Nadur in spirit…’ – the connection between Saint George Preca and Nadur.
Michael based his talk on research he conducted over recent years into the correspondence between Saint George Preca and Mother Superior Rakeli Camilleri, as well as the archives of the Society, the Nadur parish, and the Camilleri family, among others. It was through Rakeli that the Society spread to Gozo in 1915.
The main points of the talk included:the friendship that blossomed between the Founder and the Camilleri family, to the extent that they hosted him whenever he visited Gozo; the support he gave Rakeli in establishing the Society in Gozo; the assistance he offered her family during difficult times; and his connection with the Nadur parish.
Through this well-researched talk, further light was shed on Saint George Preca’s relationship with the village of Nadur.
