On Sunday, 12 October 2025, Sunday Mass was celebrated by Fr Kevin Schembri, Ecclesiastical Assistant of the Society of Christian Doctrine (SDC) at the Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church in Blata l-Bajda. The celebration was transmitted live on TVM, Malta’s national television station, as well as on the social media channels of the Archdiocese of Malta.
In his homily, Fr Kevin reflected on the central Christian duty of spreading the Gospel, the Good News, drawing inspiration from the deep missionary spirit of St George Preca, founder of the SDC, whose lifelong desire was that the whole world follow the Gospel.
Referring to the day’s Gospel reading, which recounted the healing of the ten lepers, Fr Kevin highlighted how Jesus chose to see and approach those who had been cast out by society, granting them not only physical healing but also a renewed sense of belonging. This is the Good News: that Jesus loves us unconditionally and desires to heal our wounds. Fr Kevin went on to encourage the faithful to follow Christ’s example by recognising those around them who are in need and responding to them with unconditional love and compassion.
Before the celebration of Mass, Assistant Superior General and Superior Tonio Callus took part in a live interview with Ms Nancy Formosa on RTK103’s programme Live mill-Parroċċa (Live from the Parish). The discussion focused on the apostolate of the SDC, both in Malta and overseas, particularly its mission to transmit the Catholic faith through instruction and witness.
