From Friday 25 to Sunday 27 September 2026, the SDC members of St Albans organised the Preca Family Weekend in Anglesea, Victoria. A total of 55 people took part in the weekend, which offered families and members an opportunity to spend quality time together as a community through prayer, faith formation, recreation and shared experiences.
The weekend began on Friday evening with a gathering around the Cross and the devotion to the Wounds of Christ. Participants were invited to reflect on and share what the Cross means in their own lives, making this a particularly meaningful moment of prayer and reflection.
On Saturday and Sunday mornings, the SDC members led the community in prayer, focusing on gratitude for the many blessings God gives us in our daily lives. Saturday morning also included faith formation sessions organised for the different age groups, providing an opportunity for everyone to deepen their faith in an age-appropriate setting.
The young adults played an important role throughout the weekend, taking responsibility for organising games and entertainment for the teenagers and children. There was also plenty of time for recreation, with activities including basketball, volleyball, archery and chess. On Saturday evening, everyone gathered to enjoy a family film with an inspiring and motivational message.
The Eucharist was at the heart of the weekend, with the group joining the local community for Mass at St Christopher’s Church. This provided another special opportunity for everyone to come together in prayer and thanksgiving.
The beautiful surroundings also contributed greatly to the experience. Situated close to the Great Ocean Road on the south coast of Victoria, the venue offered participants the opportunity to enjoy the Australian bush, surrounded by nature, native animals and local wildlife.
An important contribution was also made by the parents who generously volunteered to prepare the meals throughout the weekend. Their dedication and service helped create a warm and welcoming family atmosphere for everyone present.
The families who attended expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to share such a meaningful weekend together and their enthusiasm for similar gatherings in the future.
Let us thank God for the many blessings received throughout these days and for all those who contributed in different ways to making the Preca Family Weekend a joyful experience of faith, fellowship and community.
