As the anniversary of the death of Gilbert Simiana approaches, the SDC members and candidates of Malta gathered for a Wednesday meeting at the Auditorium of the General House on 25 February 2026, entitled Gilbert Simiana: An Inspiration for the Elects.
Gilbert Simiana was an adolescent who attended the SDC centre of Rabat (Malta) and who succeeded in living a holy life despite his young age.
The SDC member Robert Aloisio, who led the meeting, showed how Gilbert Simiana can be a model of how a young person may live a beautiful and joyful life close to Jesus. Through ordinary actions carried out in an extraordinary way, each person can grow in holiness and become ever more an intimate friend of Jesus. Gilbert is an example of how one can live an altruistic life, marked by patience in suffering, an intimate relationship with Jesus, and a deep love for the Church and the Pope.
“May the example of Gilbert Simiana encourage us also to live a life of quality, to seek holiness, each one according to his particular vocation.” (His Excellency Mgr Charles J. Scicluna, Archbishop of Malta)
