Drawing Maps of Hope (Albania)

In his Apostolic Letter Drawing Maps of Hope, Pope Leo XIV reminds educators that authentic education is not simply the transmission of knowledge, but also the learning of virtues, the formation of persons capable of hope, dialogue and service. Inspired by this vision, the staff of Preca College in Korçë, Albania, took part in a three-day professional development course, Drawing Maps of Hope through Education, held from 29 June to 1 July 2026.
The course was led by Prof. Carmel Borg, whose sessions invited participants to reflect critically on the mission of education in today’s rapidly changing world. Among the key themes explored were student-centred curricula, transformative education, and the vital role of community in the educational process. Through engaging discussions and collaborative activities, the academic staff examined practical approaches to creating learning environments that empower students to become active, responsible and compassionate members of society.
The programme provided a valuable opportunity for professional growth while reaffirming Preca College‘s commitment to educational excellence rooted in the dignity of every learner. As the college continues its mission, the insights gained during these days of formation will help shape classrooms where knowledge, hope and community go hand in hand.
