Celebration of Sacraments (St Albans)

This week, the SDC Centre of St Albans in Melbourne marked two important moments in the faith journey of children and young people, with the celebration of the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion.
On Tuesday, 20 August 2026, 50 candidates for First Reconciliation took part in an evening liturgy at Holy Eucharist Church. As part of their preparation for the Sacrament of Reconciliation, the candidates were guided through an examination of conscience, providing them with an opportunity for prayer and personal reflection. Among those receiving the sacrament were also two young adults.
Three priests were present to hear the candidates’ confessions. They later remarked on how moving it had been to witness the sincerity and openness with which the candidates approached the sacrament.
On Sunday, 30 August, 12 candidates celebrated their First Holy Communion during Mass at Holy Eucharist Church. The celebration was presided over by Fr Tuan Anh Do CSsR, the newly installed parish priest of Holy Eucharist Parish in St Albans.
During his homily, Fr Tuan acknowledged the candidates and encouraged them to continue seeking Jesus throughout their lives. He reminded them that, from this special day onwards, they would be able to receive Jesus in the Eucharist as spiritual food and nourishment to sustain them on their journey of faith.
Following the Mass, the candidates gathered with their families and relatives at the SDC Centre of St Albans, where they shared lunch together in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
These celebrations were joyful occasions for the candidates, their families and the wider community, marking important steps in the young people’s continuing journey of Christian faith.
