On Wednesday 6th May 2026, the SDC centre of St Albans organised a Mass to commemorate St George Preca at Holy Eucharist Church. A good number of families, parishioners and members of the SDC were present. Fr Robin Lomangkok CSsR celebrated the Mass shared how the fact that George Preca, at 15 years of age, read the book Preparation for Death, left a great impression on his spiritual life. The author of this book, St Alphonsus De Liguori, is the same founder of the congregation of Fr Robin himself. During the homily, a short video was shared highlighting the legacy of St George Preca and how important it is to appreciate the SDC’s apostolate in spreading the Good News.
The Preca St Albans youth choir, assisted by members Michael Sammut and Noel Debono, animated the Mass with music and hyms.
At the end of the Mass, holy pictures of St George Preca were distributed to those present as a token of the occasion.
Interestingly, an old Maltese person, whose father was the nephew of St George Preca, was present for Mass.
After Mass, refreshments, prepared by the parents of children who attend the SDC centre, were shared in a spirit of unity and friendship.
Then, on Friday 8th May, an engaging quiz focused on the life of St George Preca was held for children of Grade 5 and above. Participants prepared by studying ten stories from the book Called to be Holy, while many enthusiastically read the entire book to deepen their knowledge of the saint. The quiz teams, led by Benjamin, Wilroy, Gloria, and Quynh, showed great teamwork and friendly competition throughout the evening. At the end of the activity, participants received some tokens, including keyringrs, bookmarks, and prayer cards.
Meanwhile, the younger children received a colouring books about St George Preca and learned more about his life together with their catechists. The celebration concluded with a special dinner prepared by parents.
On Saturday 9th May, the feast day of St George Preca, the youth and young adults gathered for a special programme reflecting more deeply on the saint’s life and mission. Particular attention was given to his humility, zeal, and enthusiasm in spreading the Gospel. During the meeting, it was emphasised that God continues to call new SDC members to dedicate their lives to the mission established by St George Preca, and that no one should be afraid to respond generously to this calling. The gathering concluded with a Kahoot quiz about the life of St George Preca, prepared by one of the youths, followed by dinner together.
