This year, the feast day of St George Preca was celebrated by a number of events in Lipa and Tanauan City, where the SDC’s apostolate is present.
On Wednesday, 6th May, a group of catechists from the Parish of Santo Niño, Marawoy, Lipa City were invited to the SDC residence for dinner. This fraternal gathering to celebrate the feast day of St George Preca opened with the sharing of some episodes from the Founder’s life together with some of his prayers. This was followed by a light moment of food and celebration. The special rapport and the sense of mutual belonging that has developed with the parish catechists is truly cherished.
On Friday, 8th May, the evening mass at the Parish of Santo Niño was celebrated in honour of St George Preca. Mass was presided over by Fr Randel Katigbak, parochial vicar. In his homily, he highlighted the mission of proclaiming the Good News, which shone through the life of St George Preca but is also a calling for each and every one of us.
On Saturday, 9th May, mass was celebrated by Fr Darwin de Leon at the Parish of Nuestra Señora de la Soledad, Darasa, Tanauan City. During the homily, the parish priest reflected on two of the Founder’s sayings: “Cherish everything that brings you closer to God,” and “Imitate Christ, the one who came into the world to serve and not to be served.”
The attendees included a group of youths who had attended the Lenten catechism sessions earlier in the year as well as some faculty members from FAITH Catholic School. The presence of these friends of the Society is greatly appreciated. At the end of mass, the congregation was invited for lunch at the parish and some material about the life of the Founder was distributed.
We have much to be thankful to the Lord for these opportunities, which in the spirit of the Founder, continue to make Christ known and loved.
