On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Malta and the Holy See, the Apostolic Nunciature to Malta, together with the Society of Christian Doctrine (MUSEUM), organised a public talk entitled “Blessed are the Poor, for they are Witnesses of Hope”.
The talk, delivered by Monsignor Anton Teuma, Bishop of Gozo, took place on Wednesday, 19 November 2025, at the Auditorium of the Society of Christian Doctrine in Blata l-Bajda.
Bishop Teuma reflected on how, as Church, we are called to look at people through the eyes of Christ, that is, to recognise their dignity for who they are, rather than for what they possess. The poor are those who bring us the hope of the Gospel. It is not the wealthy who will save the poor, but the poor who will save the wealthy. The poor open our hearts and shape them according to the heart of Christ. In this way, we allow Christ to make us true Christians.
The event concluded with a message from the Apostolic Nuncio to Malta, Monsignor Savio Hon Tai-Fai.
