Members of the SDC Friends group gathered for a reflective away day on Saturday, 4th October 2025, marking the memorial feast of St Francis of Assisi. The theme of the day focused on the life of St Francis and, in particular, his inspiring example of the virtue of poverty.
The group began the day with Mass at St Joseph’s Parish Church in Epsom, before continuing to Maryfield Convent in Hook, Hampshire. There, participants spent quality time together, engaging in reflections on the life of St Francis, a Bible session centred on the Gospel episode of the Rich Young Man, and moments of prayer, including the Rosary in the convent chapel.
On the return journey to London, the group made a pleasant stop at Windsor, taking the opportunity to walk around the town centre and enjoy the surroundings near Windsor Castle.
The day was a spiritually enriching experience, offering all who took part a chance to reflect more deeply on the simplicity and joy that characterised St Francis’s way of life.
