Madeleine Delbrêl, born in 1904, spent her entire life in poor health. As a young woman, she described herself as a ‘strict atheist’, even going so far as to proclaim that ‘God is dead… death reigns’ following a failed romantic relationship. However, God entered her life in a powerful way shortly afterwards, and from that moment on, she devoted herself to serving others through the foundation of the Charity of Jesus.
She passed away in 1964 at the age of 60, and in 2018, Pope Francis declared her venerable. In this book, The Holiness of Ordinary People, Madeleine continues to affirm the truth that holiness is attainable for all, revealing the beauty found in the lives of ordinary individuals who allow God to fill them with His extraordinary love. What God can bring about in a person, and what a person can achieve through the power of God! For those who earnestly seek to live an authentic Christian life, this book is sure to be both helpful and inspiring. In Madeleine’s own words: “We are ordinary people of the streets; we firmly believe that God wants us to be on the streets, and that these very streets are the places where we can be sanctified”.
